Engineering limitations

Results are based on linear-elastic beam theory. The factor of safety considers bending stress only and does not establish overall structural safety.

Shear stress, torsion, buckling, fatigue, dynamic effects, connection strength and support capacity are not assessed. For open sections such as UPE channels, loading away from the shear centre may introduce torsion that is not included.
